I am just finishing up this piece. Like my large work "Shade in the Desert" this piece shows a herd of horses enjoying the only coolness available in the Sandhills in the summer, the breeze at the top of a hill. I wanted to show more of the Sandhills and the unique landscape we have comprised of a grass crust over pure sugar sand. Often at the windy edge of a hill is a hole in that crust, leaving a sand pit to cast the only shadows we have at midday. The horses scratch each other, cash shade for one another, and swat flies for one another with their faces into the breeze.
This is charcoal on panel and varnished. It will have a custom frame soon!
